imagine not being a fan of fish. could not be theo. but it's not the underboss that shows up today but matias, a member of hoenn's illustrious elite four. it's a shame, though, as the underboss would've really appreciated the fishies and the boat.[break][break]

he yells from above as he descends on the back of his noivern. it swoops down low, releasing him onto the deck of the ship. he rolls to break his fall, then stands up right next to lam.[break][break]

"thanks for the invite."

A carracosta wasn’t so bad…it wasn’t a fish, so… “Okay bud, go for it,” he says to his shinx, who peers up over the edge of the boat then sends a charged up SPARK over the side. The electricity fans out over the water and roasts the carracosta.[break][break]

He’s just fishing the ball out of the water with a net when Matias drops down from the sky.[break][break]

“Oh dip, hey!” He lifts a hand in an offered fist bump of greeting as he laughs. “Way to make an entrance.”

his fist raises to bump lam's in greeting.[break][break]

"thanks! always make a good entrance. that's what i try to follow."[break][break]

it's a shame his acquaintanceship with fern delaney didn't work out because they probably have more in common than he realizes. okay, maybe not.[break][break]

after dropping matias off, the noivern climbs back up into the air, disappearing high above the clouds.[break][break]

"i didn't know you were a fan of fishing."[break][break]

in the distance, a gabite wades through the water, keeping to itself.

“I’ll make a note of that.” He’s not a big entrances guy, though. He’s way more lowkey. But his partner, Ikarus Rook, would probably very much agree with the sentiment.[break][break]

He’s the bombastic one.[break][break]

A lombre paddles by the side of the boat, only its lily pad hat visible. His shinx, fooled by the decoy, leaves it be.[break][break]

“Ahhh.. not exactly,” he admits with a laugh. Absently, he pushes a hand through his hair, birdsnesting it, though it was already a bit messy.[break][break]

“I actually don’t care much for fish at all.” In fact, they freak him out but again. It’s fine— so long as he’s on the boat and not in the water. He’s distracted by a small, swooping shadow overhead and for a second he thinks it’s Pomelo, before he remembers that he didn’t bring her along today.[break][break]

“Think your hunt from the other day’s finally over,” he says as he points up.

he peers up at the small, swooping shadow for a moment before realizing what it is.[break][break]

"a wattrel! omg."[break][break]

he's quick to pull out an empty pokeball, aiming at it like a pro baseball player staring down the base. his noivern's too far away to help so he has to do this himself.[break][break]

so, after patiently waiting for an opening, he finds one and throws the pokeball right up at it, catching it by surprise. the pokeball falls back down right into his hand.[break][break]

"i got it!"

“Looks like the searching paid off.” His hand shields his eyes as he looks up at the small bird again, then shifts to search for his pelipper up in the sky.[break][break]

“Heeeeelll yeah, you did!” Lam eyes the pokeball as it lands in the other’s hand neatly. “It practically came right to you.”[break][break]

A samurott also tries to join them, hoisting itself up over the side of the boat, making it rock slightly. The shinx darts away from where he was still watching the lombre’s lily pad and tackles the larger Pokémon with a WILD CHARGE.[break][break]

A pokeball from Lam quickly follows.

he looks down at the pokeball, then tosses the pokeball up to call out the wattrel.[break][break]

it chirps, flapping about only to land on lam's shoulder.[break][break]

"maybe it was drawn to you instead."[break][break]

most definitely.[break][break]

a small axew swims along, somehow not drowning despite its short arms.

Lam doesn’t make any attempt to shoo the little bird, only grinning when it lands on his shoulder. He’s use to the sensation.[break][break]

“Yeahhh, my partner staunchly believes that too,” he admits with a laugh as one hand lifts to scratch under the wattrel’s beak, “kind of a bird guy.”[break][break]

Maybe the understatement of the century.[break][break]

“I’ve been working with them since I was a kid helping my dad in the field. So they kind of just…flock now.” He shrugs. Do they think he’s a bird too? Who’s to say? It’s never bothered him.[break][break]

A skiploom drifts through the air, and bumps into him as well– not paying attention. Lam promptly taps the spacey creature with a pokeball.

"oh yeah now that you said it, you're definitely a bird guy."[break][break]

what does that make matias? a worm guy? probably more a lizard guy than anything.[break][break]

amused by his own thoughts, he greets the corsola with a smile before picking it up and helping it back into the water on the other side of the boat.[break][break]

he walks back over to lam after.[break][break]
